Christmas Rush

I was recently watching an older news clip about how there are some folks out there that get beat up when Black Friday shopping time comes around. I could never understand that, especially now with the "Cyber Monday" deals that are out there.

Now on a Monday, I can sit with a cup of coffee, calmly scan through the online catalogs, point, click and ship my wife's presents to my mothers house. Upon their arrival, mom will neatly wrap her gifts (instead of me trying to wrap them - they dont resemble a wrapped present when I do it that is for sure).

They want so bad to just get the BIGGEST and BEST things that the Christmas season is going to offer. But do they get it? I mean, do they REALLY get it?

Christmas time - do YOU really get it?

For me, sure - let us be honest, if we asked for nothing and GOT nothing under the tree we would be a little PO'd (come on be honest, who doesnt like a present!) but now as an adult - watching the reaction of my kids is priceless. And NOT just the reaction for them opening a ton of presents - no - the reaction of knowing Dad doesnt have to go to work today - its a Holiday - we spend time together. THAT is when memories happen and that is what you are suppose to understand.

You see, we live a life where you never know what is going to happen. Take for instance a local girl, 19, was driving home from her friends house. She was having the time of her life probably doing what girls do and plan their weddings, talk about whatever girls talk about, laugh, carry on.

She veered off the road and hit a tree head on - she died on impact. I read the story and thought to myself - "wow, who would have thought that 9 years and 6 months would be midlife."

Makes you think doesnt it? What are you valuing at Christmas this year? What have you been stressing about? The cookies you have to make? The decorations? That Christmas party? Who cares! You're living and going to be around the people that love you. The people that know you.

Share your life - create a legacy - ENJOY their company. That is what you should be valuing.
